TechBytes 6.37: The Economy of Creative Exports

<dc:subject>TechBytes 6.37: The Economy of Creative Exports</dc:subject>

This is an interesting perspective you present and viable in many ways:

"All of us—informed citizens as well as elected officials—need to be reminded that the creative economy is one of the U.S.’s most important economic resources, and the creative economy creates not just jobs but high-paying jobs. The creative economy is one of the few areas where the U.S. runs an enormous trade surplus with the rest of the world, and any thought of economic recovery and continued U.S. economic expansion must factor in continued U.S. global dominance in the creative economy. "

It is imperative to also make cost of goods competitive during the production cycle so that those high paying jobs don't go elsewhere--like Canada--using the film industry as one example. Having worked with IATSE for many years there is always an on-going battle in terms of union vs. non-union wages and labor.

An intelligent question might be how do we maintain and expand a creative trade surplus as we address peripheral issues that contribute to the outsourcing of the labor & locales to countries that maintain lower costs of doing business while offering better tax incentives? It's not always just about the "higher paying" jobs.

Respectfully,

NJ Paust

None characterize it as a "kowtow" by any means.

Also, when Republicans are in office we hear a lot about how politics should end at "the waters' edge," and that foreign policy should be non-partisan, particularly during a time of crisis. This seemed important to the R's in the past. Of course I am not saying that Dems are all that good at this . . . .

I'm just saying . . . .

Calling the guys 'crooks' because they have a different view (under different law I might add) is were you can see best how you have closed up. Calling them names will not make them more guilty than they are (not).

Furthermore, TPB did not steal anything, they showed people where to find copies of digital material (just like google does).

You can't steal digital content, but you can copy it. That is a big difference! If I steal your car, you don't have a car anymore. If I copy the design of your house, you still have your house. See where the big difference is between the two?

And finally, the big and mighty corporations have drained the common people and the artists of the bulk of their money for decades and now that is biting them in the ass. People take back what is rightfully theirs and you can't stop them by winning a small case like this one.

So, no good and no bad riddance, they are still here, even stronger than before!

With regards,

Vincent

Scientists can barely even see Pluto with modern telescopes. What technology would you use to carry out measure temperatures on other planets?

As you are probably aware, getting a reliable measurement of the global temperature is quite difficult even here on earth. Now, can you imagine how much more difficult it would be to get a reliable measure of temperature on Jupiter?

Before you spread the claim that other planets are warming, I suggest you look into it a little more thoroughly and ask questions, like "How would anybody be able to establish this?"

Thanks, Chris

<dc:subject>Think twice about Obama’s Stop Fraud Act</dc:subject>

So you think it is fair for the sub-prime lending industry to charge 3 times the "credit worthy" interest rate to people who are tired of having their rented homes sold out from under them? My personal experience is that the sub-prime lenders have preyed on people with less than perfect credit or people who have started a business and have had to opted for a "no doc" loan due to a time factor imposed upon them by an unscrupulous landlord. My husband and I have one of these outrageous loans due to the landlord situation described above and now have a 30 year mortgage with a balloon payment due at the end of the term that is about equal to half the original loan! This is absolutely insane and disheartening! And then they wonder why so many are losing their homes! We'll be in our 80's by the time the 30 years are up, who's going to refinance our house when we're that old?
