Discussion on the motion for voluntary approval of the insurance policy for domestic workers

HE the Labor Minister, Dr. Ali bin Samikh al-Marri, met on Monday with HE the Speaker of the Qatar Chamber (QC), Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim al-Thani, and members of the QC Board of Directors. The meeting discussed a joint initiative between the Ministry of Labor (MoL) and QC regarding a motion to voluntarily approve a domestic workers insurance policy for Qataris, through coordination between insurance companies and recruiting offices.
The motion, which will be approved, follows a thorough and intensive study of market data to help protect the interests of all parties, especially the employer. According to the petition, the insurance policy covers a number of cases, including the reluctance of workers to do their job as well as the escape of workers, accidents at work, death, and the value of the ticket that will be claimed in cases covered by the policy. The meeting was organized as part of the Ministry of Labour’s policy to consult with employers’ representatives and inform them of the latest legislative developments, laws and regulations related to the local working environment. He also noted the keenness of the Ministry of Labor to continue coordination and cooperation with the Qatar Chamber on labor matters and to resolve obstacles that the private sector may face in relation to the services of the Ministry of Labor.
