Bombay (Maharashtra) [India]September 9 (ANI/NewsSee): Digital insurer Edelweiss General (EGI) has announced that it has extended its group health insurance policy to members of the LGBTQIA+ community. EGI’s revamped group health policy now covers both LGBTQIA+ and unmarried partners (same-sex or different-sex partners, who may live in). The policy will also cover disabled children without age limit and dependent children (without disability) up to 30 years of age.
EGI’s policy is a big step toward a more inclusive health care framework, given that traditionally, group health policies have only included individuals’ legally married spouse. Companies that opt for EGI’s group health coverage can now offer comprehensive coverage tailored to the needs of diverse employees.
Commenting on this development, Pooja Yadav, Chief Product Officer, Edelweiss General Insurance, said, “As an organization, we believe in diversity and inclusion. Access to good health care is the right of every individual. We are happy to expand our policy to include members of the LGBTQIA+ community and unmarried partners. We need to keep pace with the changing definition of family. We are confident that our small step will help slowly transform workplaces and create a more welcoming work atmosphere for the LGBTQIA+ community.
EGI’s group health insurance policy covers all hospitalization costs, pre and post hospitalization costs (30 and 60 days respectively), day care, home hospitalization and AYUSH treatments. The policy can be customized according to customers’ requirements.
The policy also offers many other benefits, including:
1. Payment of the premium in installments
2. Wide range of covers including maternity cover, personal accident cover options
3. Option of deductible or co-payment for claims made during the period of insurance
4. Room rent cap options, etc.
