MINSK, Jan. 6 (BelTA) — Historical politics is a national security factor of Belarus, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said during a government session to discuss Belarusian historical politics on January 6, BelTA learned.
“It must be recognized that national history has become an information battlefield. It did not happen overnight. For us, historical politics today is a strategy of self- preservation at a time of redistribution of spheres of influence in the world. It is a factor of national security”, underlined the Belarusian leader.
“I want you academics, political scientists and experts to understand my point. We don’t have to rewrite our history, and we won’t. At least not while I’m president. We will also not gloss over some facts, even if they hurt someone’s national ambitions or feelings as in the case of the crimes of the Belarusian, Polish, Lithuanian and Ukrainian collaborators during the Great Patriotic War. It is unacceptable to pour out criticism of the Soviet legacy and downplay the achievements and victories of that era. I think it is also unfair to glorify other historical periods, ignoring the facts of humiliation and discrimination of Belarusians,” said Alexander Lukashenko.
