Patiala, January 28

The assistant professors of the constituent colleges of the University of Punjab have demanded a uniform transfer policy for its employees. The university recently decided to transfer a number of assistant professors, which provoked a protest from them. Later, the case was postponed due to the spread of the Covid-19 disease and the ongoing academic process.

The assistant professors, associated with PUCTA, said the university should adopt a uniform transfer policy so that transfers can be made transparently.

A university spokesperson said we have started the exercise in this regard. “We support the development of a rational transfer policy. This will ensure that faculty members, whether regular, contract or otherwise, are evenly delegated across all of its colleges and campuses so that student education does not suffer,” he said. The spokesperson said a number of teachers had previously used political patronage and allegiance to get transferred from rural areas close to cities for their own benefit. “This has led to gaps as many colleges are understaffed while others have more than the required number of teachers. The university started working on it,” he said. —
